How can you recenter your customer in the New Year?

This blog was originally published as a LinkedIn Article in January 2024. Each New Year, whether that’s January or whenever your fiscal year begins, is a great time to refresh and put your customer front and center.

New Year, new customer

Whether it’s the start of your business year or the start or your Q3 fiscal year, a New Year is a great time to pause, reflect on, and recenter your customer.

Go back to the basics and review who your customer is. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Who pays for what you offer? Who uses it?

  • How have they changed?

  • What is important to them in 2025?

Set your goals

Now that your customer is front of mind, it’s time to review your product and set your goals for the year.

You may want to ask yourself…

  • Are you still serving your customer in a way they find meaningful?

  • Are there new ways you can serve your customer that they might prefer?

Planning is progress

We’re deep into January, the time when most of us who made New Year’s resolutions are trying to remember what they were. A resolution is like a car without fuel. It might be nice to look at, but it won’t get you very far. The same is true in business; the fuel for any effort is planning. You know your customer, product, and goals. How are you going to reach them?

Part of planning (and New Year resolutions) is reflecting on what you might need to change in order to get the results that you want. Explore what needs to be true about your organization in order to serve your customer in the New Year.

Don’t go alone

90% of those New Year gym memberships only last 3 months. One thing that can make the difference is accountability. You don’t have to go it alone in your business! Prioritizing relationships that help you meet your goals can make all the difference.
